Practical Steps for Raising Children Properly
There are many steps to apply if you want to have your children righteous
and steadfast on the right path and make them the joy of your hearts:
1- Choosing the right spouse:
a man must select a righteous and suitable wife based on the following
conditions described in various narrations of the Prophet (PBUH):
“The woman married for four things: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty or her religion. Choose the one who is religious, may your hands be rubbed with dust [i.e., may you prosper]!”
If it happens that the wife is not that righteous,
her husband should strive to guide her by various means such as encouraging her to observe the five daily prayers on time,
giving charity, reciting the Quran,
memorizing Athkaar and remembering the appropriate times
and occasions for saying them
and teaching her the importance of raising the children properly and warning her against neglecting them.
Also, a woman, on the other hand,
should select a righteous man who will be her husband and the father of her children.
The Prophet (PBUH) said: “If there comes to you one with whose religion and character you are pleased, then marry your daughter [or sister, etc.] to him, otherwise there will be Fitnah and great corruption in the land.”
All of the above must be achieved through asking the right questions, verifying facts,
The righteous man and righteous woman together will build a righteous home which brings out good and righteous children.
